Member Services Connectivity Update Press Release

Member Services Connectivity Update from Middle Tennessee Electric

Middle Tennessee Electric (MTE) is suspending all disconnections and payment fees as it continues to experience telephone and online communication disruptions after the Christmas Day bombing near AT&T’s facility in Nashville. MTE has also set up temporary phone numbers for its members to use during the service disruption.

“MTE is working diligently with AT&T to restore its communications channels,” MTE President Chris Jones said. “There is no timeframe for restoration, but AT&T officials ensure us they are repairing their network as expeditiously as possible. In the meantime, we have suspended disconnections for non-payment and for prepay customers, along with waiving all associated fees until payment processing services are restored. Members can call (615) 801-8572 for service. This is a number we have specifically set up for this temporary situation.”

To manage power outages, MTE will lean on its Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) technology to automatically report most service interruptions, and service trucks will be dispatched within minutes to restore power. However, MTE has also set up a special outage line for this temporary situation that members can call. It is (615) 547-7317.

“This is an unprecedented communication and member service disruption for us,” Jones said. “Like many area businesses, MTE uses AT&T for telephone and online communication channels and services. This includes outage reporting, bill payment processing and requests to turn service on and off. MTE’s myMTEMC app’s connectivity is also impaired.”

“However, we very much sympathize with the difficulty of this situation in Nashville. Our hearts go out to our neighbors to the north, as do our thoughts and prayers to everyone affected.”

MTE will continue to update members on www.mtemc.com and its social media channels as new information becomes available.

[Please note that some sources previously reported a cell phone number in error; please only use the numbers listed above.]
