In-School Presentations

Bringing energy to your classroom

Educating members and their students is just one of the ways MTE gives back to the communities we serve. Our team has created some fantastic presentations for your classroom that are both engaging for students, informative, and follow Tennessee STEM standards. It's a great way to teach classes the importance of electricity, safety, the impact energy has on the environment, and more.

If you are a teacher or school administrator interested in one of our programs for you or your students' classes, reach out to our community relations coordinator.

This 30-minute program is an introduction to electricity and its safe use. Age-appropriate videos are shown to help teach members and their students about electricity. The presentation also includes a powerline demonstration for ages eight and up.

This 45-minute program outlines how energy is transferred using thermal imaging cameras and other tools to visually demonstrate the transfer of energy. It’s designed and tailored for students ages 10 and up.

This 50-minute program examines the movement of electrons, circuits, grounding and more. Students are also exposed to the differences between static and current electricity through group participation including an optional electrostatic generator demonstration. This program is suggested for ages 10 and up.

This 45-minute interactive presentation is a curriculum-based, professional touring theatre. The two programs offered through MTE and performed by ETT, who specializes in presenting theatre programs that are designed to both educate and entertain. Both options are designed for students age 7 and up.

  1. "Giants of Electrical Science" educates the youth on electricity while determining who was the greatest electrical scientist of all time.
  2. "The Energy Detective" explores alternative energy sources and promotes energy efficiency.

Each spring, MTE brings an educational initiative to area schools to teach students about trees. This educational initiative encourages environmental awareness and the importance of planting the right tree in the right place.

Classroom Curriculum: An MTE representative will conduct classroom activities and discussions on how to transport, plant, and care for trees. There will also be folders handed out to the students which will include information on vegetation management near power lines and the importance of trees to the environment.

Parental Involvement: The cooperative will have a letter included in the classroom information addressed to parents which talk about the school initiative. The children will also be given a small tree sapling to take home and plant with their families as part of an exercise to use the information they learn from the cooperative's program. Parents are encouraged to participate and assist their children in making it a family learning experience.

MTE's Right-of-Way Program: In addition, MTE plans to use the initiative as a way to educate the children on why it's so important not to plant tall trees near power lines and discuss the cooperative's tree trimming program. MTE's Right-of-Way crews have to cut back or eventually take down trees within the 40-foot right of way (20 feet on each side of a power line). It's MTE's hope that the program will teach the children from an early age why it's so important to plant trees in the right place.
