At Middle Tennessee Electric, our mission is to provide affordable, reliable, safe electricity and outstanding member service. One way we're fulfilling a mission cornerstone — affordability — is helping our members save on their energy costs.
Effective April 1, 2023, MTE launched a new Supplemental Residential Rate for members with secondary meters at the same location as a residence. This includes meters on detached garages, storage sheds, pool heaters and more. Previously, secondary meters were classified as a General Service 1 (GSA 1) account. The Supplemental Residential Rate is designed to save you money by reducing your monthly Basic Service Charge and exempting the account from sales tax.
Please note that the Supplemental Residential Rate is only available for single-phase service to additional meters on a residential property account providing electricity for domestic services such as lighting, household appliances, and the personal comfort and convenience of those residing at the location. This rate is not available to accounts with demand over 25 kW or monthly usage over 7,500 kWh.
If you think one of your accounts qualifies for the Supplemental Residential Rate, please contact member support at 877-777-9020.
