Annual Meeting
Your co-op, your vote — see how members guide MTE
MTE is owned by the members we serve. Once a year, the Annual Meeting brings that ownership to life. Members elect the MTE Board of Directors and the nominating committee, act on any proposed bylaw changes, and hear updates from their cooperative. MTE has held this meeting since 1936, and it remains one of the best ways to get involved. On this page, you can watch our annual update, see how our elections are managed, and learn how board candidates are nominated.
See how your co-op is doing
Your cooperative belongs to you, so you deserve to know how it's doing. Our annual update video walks through the numbers behind MTE, including statistics and financial information. It's a quick look at how we continue to grow and operate to better serve our members.
The meeting includes a business session. Leaders share the cooperative's financial and statistical update for the fiscal year, and election results are announced. Members submit questions for a live Q&A where they hear answers directly from MTE leaders.
Each member gets one vote. You can vote for director candidates in every district, not just your own. Members vote in person at MTE offices using voting machines. Early voting takes place the week before the meeting.
Independent groups run our elections. The Rutherford County Election Commission serves as an independent agent. An independent auditor counts every ballot and declares the results. MTE's board and staff are not involved in the process.
Candidates can be nominated by the MTE Nominating Committee or qualify by petition. Nominations must be received at least 60 days before the Annual Meeting. Directors serve staggered three-year terms, so only some seats are up for election each year.
‘Democratic Member Control’ is one of the Seven Cooperative Principles. It's a big part of what makes a co-op different from other utilities. When you vote, you help choose the neighbors who guide your cooperative.
