Quantum collaboration
Powering progress together: The dawn of Quantum Valley
Middle Tennessee Electric (MTE) and Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) have partnered to launch an innovative new quantum technology effort: the Middle Tennessee Quantum Technology Hub (MT-QuTech Hub).
This initiative is a key part of the growing “Quantum Valley” taking shape across the region via numerous research laboratories, universities, and energy partners as they advance practical quantum technology solutions to create new opportunities for innovation and economic growth. This effort can strengthen energy infrastructure, improve reliability, and create new opportunities for innovation and economic growth across Middle Tennessee.
The pioneering partnership will help build the region’s emerging quantum technology ecosystem and focus on developing practical, accessible solutions that can improve the lives of MTE members and communities across Middle Tennessee. It also reflects MTE’s ongoing commitment to reliability, innovation, and making a positive local impact.
By combining MTE’s expertise in energy and fiber internet with MTSU’s research leadership, the MT-QuTech Hub is helping shape the future of technology in our region — for the benefit of MTE members and all Middle Tennesseans.
Reliable electricity is at the heart of what we do. Quantum technology is a new area of science that could one day offer smarter and more secure ways to support the electric grid. Through this partnership, MTE is exploring how emerging technology could help strengthen energy infrastructure over time. It's one more way we look ahead so the grid can keep up with the lives our members are building.
The MT-QuTech Hub is being built on MTSU's Murfreesboro campus. It's part of the university's Quantum Research Interdisciplinary Science and Education (QRISE) Center, which focuses on research, education, workforce development, and partnerships. Students will have the chance to learn about quantum technology close to home. This helps prepare the next generation of Middle Tennesseans for careers in technology.

MTE and MTSU signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on May 19, 2026. The MOU formalized a collaboration that began more than a year earlier. The partnership combines MTE's experience in energy and fiber internet with MTSU's research leadership. Together, we're helping build connections between energy, education, and emerging technologies across Middle Tennessee.

Quantum technology uses the science of very tiny particles to work with information in new ways. It's a growing field that includes computing, communication, sensing, and new materials. Researchers are still learning how it can be used in everyday life and business.
The MT-QuTech Hub is a partnership between MTE and MTSU's QRISE Center. It brings together research, education, and real-world energy experience. The goal is to build quantum infrastructure, expertise, and a skilled workforce in our region.
This partnership is focused on learning, research, and planning for the future. Quantum technology isn't part of your day-to-day electric service today. We'll share updates as the work moves forward.
