Electric vehicles
Clear answers on EV charging, home wiring, and rates from your co-op
Whether you already drive an electric vehicle or you’re just curious, MTE is here to help. DriveEV is our initiative to support members with practical EV programs and provide answers about charging, wiring, and rates. On this page, you’ll learn how home charging works and how the EV Ready credit can help with wiring. You’ll also see how our overnight rate, NiteFlex Plan, could fit your routine. Members who'd like to find a community of local drivers can learn more about our free EV Car Club.
Charging your EV, at home and on the road
Most EV owners charge at home overnight. Many choose Level 2 charging, which runs on a 240-volt circuit, so your home may need new wiring. A licensed electrician can tell you what your home needs and do the work safely.
MTE’s EV Ready gives you a $50 bill credit toward that wiring. Any Level 2 charger brand qualifies. Building a new home? Builders have their own EV Ready option.

When you charge can matter as much as how you charge. The NiteFlex Plan is an optional rate where energy costs less late at night and slightly more during the day. That can make it a good fit if you regularly charge your EV overnight.
Charging overnight also eases demand on the grid during busy daytime hours. Whether NiteFlex is right for you depends on how much you drive and how your household uses energy. This plan is available through myEnergyPlan, and you can pair it with other options to fit your lifestyle and preferences.

Heading out of town? MTE has public DC fast chargers at our Lebanon, Murfreesboro, and Franklin offices. DC fast chargers charge more quickly than home chargers, which is convenient for longer trips.
Our chargers are part of the Fast Charge TN Network. It’s a joint effort of the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC), and local power companies to support EV travel along major highways.
