Youth Leadership Summit

An all-expenses-paid leadership trip for high school juniors

High school juniors in MTE’s service territory can be selected for the Youth Leadership Summit, a three-day, all-expenses-paid seminar in Nashville. During the trip, delegates from across Tennessee get a hands-on look at state government, build networking and leadership skills, and learn more about their local electric cooperatives. Two delegates are selected from MTE’s service territory each year to attend.

About the summit

The Youth Leadership Summit gives students a chance to step outside the classroom and take a closer look at how government, leadership, and community service connect. Throughout the seminar, delegates meet other students from across the state, strengthen leadership skills, and gain a better understanding of the role electric cooperatives play in local communities. It is designed to be both educational and practical, giving students a stronger sense of how they can make a difference in their communities.

How students are selected

Each year, Middle Tennessee Electric rotates the county served through the Youth Leadership Summit. In the selected county, school counselors recommend students based on leadership ability and community involvement. From those recommendations, one male and one female delegate are chosen to attend the seminar.

Congratulations to Emma Zhang of Franklin High School and Evan Cockrel of Fairview High School for being selected.
