Solar & Renewables
Understand your options before you decide
Many members are looking for options for installing or supporting solar and other forms of renewable energy in the Tennessee Valley. MTE can help you compare available paths, including getting advice before installing a system, participating in local solar without putting equipment on your property, and exploring broader renewable energy options. If you’re considering installing solar on your property, talk with an MTE Solar EnergyPro before you sign.
Installing a solar system is a major home and energy decision. Before signing a contract, talk with an MTE Solar EnergyPro. During our ProSolar consultation, you can ask questions about a proposal, better understand what to expect, and receive a production estimate.
MTE does not sell solar systems or choose a contractor for you. Our role is to help you understand the information in front of you and connect you with the approved requirements for installing or expanding a system.
Contact MTE early in the process. This will help you get the right system and improve the process of connecting your system to your home and the grid. The Solar Interconnection Documentation page outlines the process and provides the approved forms and technical information for connecting a residential solar system to MTE’s grid.

Putting panels on your property is not the only way to participate in solar. Cooperative Solar lets residential members subscribe to solar generation from MTE’s solar field in College Grove.
MTE manages the solar field, and participants do not own the equipment, so even renters can participate without a big commitment.
Visit the Cooperative Solar page for current information about availability and participation.

Renewable energy is a broad category that includes sources such as the sun, wind, and water. Solar is one renewable energy source, but the terms do not mean the same thing.
MTE works with TVA to provide additional renewable energy options. These programs work differently from ProSolar and Cooperative Solar. Review the TVA Programs page for currently available residential options and information on how they work.
Members looking to participate in renewable energy should also consider MTE's Green Plan. The Green Plan allows members to claim and offset 100% of their energy consumption.

Installing panels is not the only way to participate. MTE helps members by providing education on home solar systems and Cooperative Solar, as well as a range of renewable energy options.
An MTE Solar EnergyPro can help you better understand a solar proposal before you commit. A ProSolar consultation is free and includes a production estimate, but it is not a sales service or a contractor endorsement.
Renters and members whose properties are not suited for panels may still have options. Cooperative Solar and the Green Plan provides a way to participate without installing or owning equipment at home.
Members planning a new or expanded solar system should contact MTE early. We’ll connect you with the approved interconnection information and technical resources for the project.
