Renewable energy program options

Explore TVA renewable energy programs available through MTE

MTE helps connect members with renewable energy options offered through TVA. These programs are designed for different needs, from simple monthly participation in renewable energy to larger business sustainability goals. Whether you want an easy way to support renewable energy or need renewable energy credits for carbon reduction goals, MTE can help you understand which option may fit your needs.

Renewable energy program options
Power REC

Power REC is available to business members and can help them meet carbon-reduction goals. This program allows businesses to make a one-year commitment to purchase Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) in bulk.

How does Power REC work?

Power REC uses 100% wind renewable energy credits delivered to TVA. The program does not require sign-up or infrastructure costs. Because a limited number of RECs are available each year, businesses interested in participating should contact MTE’s distributed energy resources coordinator to sign up or ask about being added to the waitlist.

Who should consider Power REC?

Power REC may be a good fit for businesses looking to work toward carbon-reduction goals without a long-term contract. By purchasing RECs in bulk, businesses can offset carbon emissions without building additional renewable energy infrastructure or incurring extra costs to reduce their carbon energy footprint.

Program Highlights
  • Best fit: Business and commercial members with carbon reduction goals
  • Commitment: One year
  • Renewable energy type: 100% wind renewable energy credits
  • Good to know: Limited RECs are available each year
Green Switch

Green Switch is a joint program with TVA that gives members a simple way to support renewable energy for $2 per month. Members who participate pay $2 each month to receive 200 kilowatt-hours of renewable energy.

How does Green Switch work?

Each $2 block is equivalent to adding 200 kilowatt-hours of clean, renewable power to the grid. This is a month-to-month program for members who want an easy way to support renewable energy.

Who should consider Green Switch?

Green Switch may be a good fit for members who want to support renewable energy but do not have the space, money, or time to install their own solar PV system. It offers a simple way to claim clean, renewable energy without the changes in energy generation that can come with a solar installation.

Program Highlights
  • Best fit: Residential members who want a simple way to support renewable energy
  • Commitment: Month to month
  • Renewable energy amount: 200 kilowatt-hours per $2 block
  • Good to know: No solar installation is needed
Green Invest

Green Invest is designed to help high-demand business members meet larger renewable energy goals. TVA and MTE work together to offer renewable options for businesses with aggressive sustainability targets. TVA uses economies of scale and a competitive bidding process to secure the lowest possible cost through 20-year contracts.

This program may be a good option for commercial and industrial members planning to operate in the Tennessee Valley for decades.

How does Green Invest work?

MTE helps members navigate the process in partnership with TVA. MTE and TVA help manage the bidding process to support the lowest possible installation and purchase cost. The member signs a contract to purchase renewable energy credits from a solar farm.

Members interested in Green Invest should reach out to MTE to begin the process.

Who should consider Green Invest?

Green Invest may be a good fit for high-volume energy use businesses with long-term sustainability goals and plans to operate in the Tennessee Valley for 20 years or more. Unlike Power REC, Green Invest is designed to deliver larger carbon reduction benefits over time while providing RECs to meet high energy-use needs.

Program Highlights
  • Best fit: High-demand commercial and industrial members
  • Commitment: 20-year contract
  • Renewable energy type: Renewable energy credits from a solar farm
  • Good to know: Designed for businesses with long-term sustainability goals
