Home rebates for energy-saving upgrades

Save money on a more efficient home

MTE and TVA have teamed up to offer rebates for qualifying home energy upgrades. If you want to make your home more comfortable, lower your energy use, or replace older equipment, this program can help with upfront costs.

Why members use home rebates

  • Get money back on qualifying energy upgrades.
  • Lower your monthly energy consumption.
  • Replace older systems that may be driving up your energy use.
  • Improve comfort and indoor air quality with certain upgrades.
  • Offset the cost of unexpected repairs or replacements.
  • Choose higher-efficiency products for your home.

How home rebates work

Step 1: Choose the upgrade you want

A good place to start is a free Home Energy Checkup. MTE’s EnergyPros can help you understand which upgrades (heating, air conditioning, insulation, water heaters, etc.) may qualify and share practical ways to improve your home’s efficiency.

Step 2: Work with a qualified contractor

To qualify for an MTE and TVA EnergyRight Home Rebate, you must use a contractor from the Quality Contractor Network. These contractors are approved to complete eligible upgrades. We recommend getting estimates from three contractors so you can compare options and choose the best fit for your home.

Step 3: Finish the project

Once the work is complete, your contractor has 90 days to submit the project through TVA’s Residential Hub

Step 4: Claim your rebate

After your project is approved, you will receive an email with instructions to claim your rebate. You will have 60 days to complete the claim process. Once your claim is complete, your rebate will be paid directly to you. Most members receive a paper check in the mail within 4–6 weeks.

Eligibility and participation questions

Who is eligible for a home rebate?

Any residential member who installs an approved upgrade through an approved TVA contractor may qualify for a home rebate from TVA EnergyRight.

Can I qualify if I rent the property?

Yes, but you will need your landlord’s permission to participate. The landlord must agree to TVA EnergyRight’s program guidelines, and the landlord will receive the rebate.

Can landlords participate in this program?

Yes. Landlords are eligible to participate. If you’d like to learn how, please contact MTE’s EnergyPros.

Do I qualify if I replace a water heater, heat pump or furnace that uses natural gas?

No. For those rebates, the unit being replaced must use electricity as the primary heating source.

Contractors and inspections questions

What if my preferred contractor is not part of the Quality Contractor Network?

Your project must be completed by a contractor in the Quality Contractor Network to qualify for a rebate. Contractors can apply to join the network at the link below.

Do I need a home rebate inspection?

No. An inspection is not required. However, MTE recommends an EnergyPro visit to make sure the upgrades were installed correctly. During that visit, MTE can also complete a Home Energy Checkup and share other ways to improve your home’s efficiency.

What happens if something is found during the follow-up visit by an MTE EnergyPro?

Your rebate will not be affected. MTE will work with your contractor to correct anything that was not installed correctly.

Timing, payment and savings questions

How long does it take to get a home rebate?

After the project is finished, your contractor has 90 days to submit it. Once the project is approved, you will receive an email with instructions to claim your rebate. You then have 60 days to complete the claim process. After your claim is complete, most rebate checks arrive by mail in 4–6 weeks.

Can I choose how I get my rebate?

No. At this time, rebates are mailed as paper checks.

Is there a limit to how many rebates I can receive?

You may use multiple rebates if they apply to different upgrade categories or to more than one eligible product in the same category. For example, you may qualify for rebates for HVAC, insulation and air sealing, or for multiple HVAC units or water heaters in the same home. You cannot receive more than one rebate for the same upgrade.

When will I start seeing savings on my energy bill?

Most energy-saving upgrades should begin helping right away. Larger upgrades, like a new HVAC system or heat pump water heater, may make a bigger difference on your monthly bill. Even if the savings are gradual, you may still notice increased comfort and more consistent temperatures in your home.
