Cooperative Solar

Solar made simple — no panels on your roof

Want to support solar but can't put panels on your home? Cooperative Solar lets you claim the energy produced by panels at MTE's solar field in College Grove. You subscribe to a block of panels each month, and we handle everything else — the equipment, the upkeep, and the repairs.

You don't own any panels. You claim the electricity they generate, and your monthly bill shows how much energy your block produced and the credit you received. Because you never put equipment on your property, renters, condo owners, and members with shaded roofs or restrictive neighborhood rules can all take part.

There's no long-term contract. You can join when a block is available and stop at any time.

Members claim the power generated by a block of solar panels for $20 per month. A block consists of 5.5 panels, and each residential member can subscribe to one or two blocks each month.

Your monthly bill shows how much energy your panels generated and any credit you received from that generation. The credit reflects the electricity your portion of the solar field produced the previous month.

Solar generation rises and falls with the weather and the seasons. In some months, your block of panels may generate less than what you paid. In others, it may generate more.

You purchase the electricity generated by the panels. You do not own any panels, property, or equipment. MTE owns and maintains the solar field, and there is never a maintenance charge for you.

You can stop participating at any time by telling us before your account bills for the current month. If you move to another location MTE serves, you can keep your blocks. Blocks are first-come, first-served, so members who leave and want to rejoin may be placed on a waiting list.
