School presentations
Classroom lessons that fit what you teach
MTE’s Community Relations team visits local classrooms to deliver hands-on presentations about electricity, safety, energy conservation, and the environment. Each one follows state standards, so it fits right into what you’re already teaching. Students might meet a lineworker, see how a circuit works, or watch heat move on a thermal camera screen. Programs run for 30 to 60 minutes, and each is recommended for a certain age group. Take a look at the presentations below, then reach out to our community relations team to bring one to your school.
Basic Electricity
Length: 60 minutes
Suggested for: Third grade
Students learn how electrons move, how circuits work, and the difference between static and current electricity. An electrostatic generator demonstration is included in this presentation.
Thermal Energy
Length: 45 minutes
Suggested for: Sixth grade
Students see how energy moves from one place to another, using thermal imaging cameras and other tools.
Exploring the World from a Power Pole
Length: 30 minutes
Suggested for: Pre-K through first grade
Young students meet a lineworker and learn how they help our community. The lesson includes a picture book for early readers and a sticker activity where students learn about a lineworker’s safety gear.
Electrical Safety & Awareness
Length: 40 minutes
Suggested for: Ages 7 and up
Students learn how electricity gets to homes and schools, watch short safety videos, and see a “live” power line demonstration.
Being Wise with Watts
Length: About 45 minutes
Suggested for: Fourth and fifth grade
Students learn about the natural resources used to make electricity and how our choices impact energy use.
TreeWise
Length: About 45 minutes
Suggested for: Ages 7 and up
Each spring, MTE’s Vegetation Management team teaches students about trees and why it matters to plant the right tree in the right place. Visit the TreeWise page for this year’s details and how to request this presentation for your classroom.

How to request a presentation
Bringing an MTE presentation to your school is simple. Depending on which program you’d like, just reach out to the right team to get it scheduled.
Classroom presentations
Interested in one of our presentations on electricity, safety, or energy? These are offered all school year long and scheduled through MTE's Community Relations team. Let them know which presentation you'd like, your grade level, and a few dates that work for your class. They'll work with you to find a time that fits your schedule.
TreeWise
TreeWise requests go through MTE’s Vegetation Management team for scheduling. It is only offered in Februrary and March each year. Teachers can choose an in-person or virtual presentation. Visit the TreeWise page for this year's dates or contact the team directly at 877-414-7685 or VegetationMgmt@mte.com.
Every presentation follows state standards, so a visit supports the lessons you already have planned instead of adding one more thing to your plate.
Presentations run from 30 to 60 minutes, and each is recommended for a certain age group, from pre-K through sixth grade. Each listing shows the length and suggested ages, so you can select the program that best fits your class.
Students don’t just hear about electricity — they see it at work. Depending on the program, they might watch an electrostatic generator in action, see heat move on a thermal imaging camera, or watch a “live” power line demonstration. Engaging moments like these help lessons stick.
Learning to spot electrical hazards at a young age helps students build safe habits they’ll carry for years. Several of our presentations teach children how to stay safe around electricity.
As a not-for-profit electric cooperative, MTE follows the Seven Cooperative Principles. The seventh is Concern for Community, and teaching local students is just one way we put it into action.
