MTE reuses wood chips from tree work to benefit members and the environment
MTE’s Vegetation Management Team regularly prunes trees to support safe, reliable electric service. This work creates wood chips, which MTE offers to members at no cost. This page explains how to request wood chips, what to expect with delivery, and how you can use them.
Request wood chips
To request wood chips, complete the form below. Deliveries are based on crew activity in your area and are fulfilled on a first come, first served basis.
An MTE Vegetation Management Specialist will contact you to share when crews are expected to be working near your location.
You must live within MTE’s service territory to be eligible for wood chip delivery.
Wood chip FAQs
What are wood chips?
When trees are pruned, the debris is run through a chipper, creating rough-cut wood chips. These chips may include limbs, leaves, bark, and other organic material.
Wood chips are not treated for insects.
How big are loads of wood chips?
Wood chips are delivered using a split dump truck and are approximately 22 cubic feet per load.
MTE is unable to provide smaller quantities.
What can I use wood chips for?
Wood chips are useful for a variety of applications, including:
- Walking paths
- Garden beds
- Composting
- Livestock bedding
How do I get wood chips delivered?

Wood chips are delivered on a first come, first served basis when crews are actively working in your area. After submitting your request, a vegetation management specialist will contact you with additional information about availability and timing.
